This two-day workshop, focusing on the basics of travel management, is NBTA's starter course designed to describe the primary components of managed travel and how a well-designed program becomes a strategic corporate asset.

- Policy creation and implementation
- Metrics and reporting
- Traveler safety and security
What is the CTE designation?
Attendees who successfully complete the Fundamentals of Business Travel Management course will be eligible to earn the Corporate Travel Expert (CTE) designation by passing the CTE exam. The CTE designation shows that you have mastered the fundamentals of corporate travel management.
You will benefit by taking the course if:
- You are new to corporate travel management
- Your job is in another discipline, such as purchasing or procurement, but you need a solid understanding of business travel practices
- You want to sharpen your knowledge of business travel management practices
- You work in a related field, such as meetings management or meeting planning, and you want to expand your professional expertise or widen your career options
About the Instructor:

Rick Wakida, CTE, CCTE
Since 2002, Rick Wakida has designed, implemented and managed global travel programs after assuming inaugural Global Travel Manager positions, most recently at Blue Coat Systems in March 2009, and previously at Gilead Sciences and Openwave Systems.
Prior to 2002, Rick was US Travel Manager for Vodafone Americas, and started his career in travel management as Assistant Vice President in Bank of America’s Travel and Entertainment department in 1995.
Rick has served as Chairman of the NBTA Hotel Committee, and presented at national and international travel conferences. He is an established source for the travel industry press, having been quoted in over seventy-five articles, in addition to authoring several pieces on various business travel topics.
Rick holds both an MBA in Finance and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and prior to working in travel management, worked for ten years in Finance at Bank of America.
