PURPOSE GBTA's
mission includes advancing the professional development of travel
professionals. To support this initiative, GBTA has developed
a scholarship program for eligible travel professionals.
SCOPE
GBTA scholarship grants are only available to qualified members
of the Georgia Business Travel Association who have demonstrated
a well thought out professional development plan for themselves
which will benefit both the applicant and their company. GBTA
will award a scholarship 4 times a year.
ELIGIBILITY
REQUIREMENTS
Applicant
must be an active member of GBTA and must retain GBTA membership
throughout the scholarship period.
Applicant's
company must certify that it endorses the applicant and
will allow applicant necessary time and funding to attend
the courses or programs.
Applicant
must comply with all schedules and requirements pertaining
to the scholarship application process.
APPLICATION
PROCESS
Each applicant must:
Complete and submit application by 6:00pm on thedeadline dates of:
First Quarter - March 15
Second Quarter - June 15
Third Quarter - September 15
Fourth Quarter - December 1 (Martha Fuller Scholarship is presented at the GBTA Holiday Gala)
Submit
an autobiographic essay outlining their professional development
plans stating why the applicant is applying for the scholarship
and why the applicant should be selected.
Include
two letters of recommendations from peers or associates
who are members of GBTA.
Submit
a signed company endorsement form.
Applications
must be complete to be considered.
Submit
application electronically to GBTA Director of Scholarships.
APPLICATION
REVIEW
Applications
are treated as privileged communication and are restricted
to the GBTA Scholarship Committee and GBTA Board.
The
decision of GBTA not to grant a scholarship rests with the
sole unfettered discretion of GBTA, shall be final and binding
and shall not be subject to challenge in any court for any
reason.
GBTA
Scholarship Committee will notify recipients directly.
SELECTION
OF SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
The GBTA Scholarship Committee will select scholarship grant
recipients with the assistance of the GBTA Board, based on
standard recipient selection procedures using the following
standards:
Industry
involvement
Awards
and honors
Leadership
and participation in GBTA activities
Statement
of career objectives
Outside
appraisals
The
GBTA Scholarship Committee is comprised of GBTA Board Members
who are representatives from the travel industry. The
Chairman of the Committee is on the Board of GBTA and Member
of NBTA
PAYMENT
OF THE SCHOLARSHIPS
The funds from the scholarships will be paid directly to NBTA at the time of the recipient's registration. Scholarship funds will apply to tuition or registration fees only.
