Project ICARUS announces the 2015 EUROPEAN Sustainability Outstanding Achievement Awards 

CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES:  October 3rd 2015

 

Project ICARUS is looking to recognize European companies and industry professionals who can demonstrate leadership, innovation, creativity and a serious commitment to developing sustainable programs, products or services in any one of the nominated categories.

They must also be unique, ground breaking, transformational or just simply outstanding!

Awards are split into the following four categories:

 

  • Travel Supplier - including air, rail, hotel, ground providers etc..
  • Travel Intermediary - including technology partners, TMCs, Card providers, GDSs etc.
  • Travel Buyer - business travel and meetings buyers
  • Professional – industry professional person or team

 

The winners will be announced and presented with a specially commissioned bronze Project ICARUS trophy at the GBTA Annual European Conference held at the Congress Center, Messe, Frankfurt, Germany on the 9th to 11th November 2015.

Entries will be accepted either by direct submission to Bernard Harrop, Head of Sustainability, Project ICARUS or by invitation from the GBTA European Sustainability Committee.

GBTA Foundation, Project ICARUS Announce Winners of the
North American Sustainability Outstanding Achievement Awards


Awards Honor Outstanding Achievements in Furthering
Business Travel and Meetings Sustainability Programs

 

The GBTA Foundation, the education and research arm of the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), and Project ICARUS are proud to announce the winners of the third annual Sustainability Outstanding Achievement Awards.

The awards recognize travel buyers, suppliers and intermediaries who can demonstrate outstanding leadership, innovation and commitment to delivering best in class sustainability programs, products and services across North America.

“The quality of entries for our third annual awards in North America exceeded our expectations, clearly reflecting the level of importance companies place on building sustainability into business travel and meetings programs,” said Bernard Harrop, head of sustainability Project ICARUS. “All the entries received were worthy of an award giving the judging panel a tough task in selecting the winners and demonstrating the strides made industry-wide in sustainability.”

The finalists were:

 

  • British Airways
  • United Airlines
  • Enterprise Holdings
  • Wyndham Worldwide
  • Barclays PLC, North America

 

The winners were:

Travel Supplier: Enterprise Holdings

  • Enterprise Holdings demonstrated a clear strategy with their 20/20 vision program, continued renewal of their carbon friendly fleet and customer programs such as rideshare and car share. In addition, they have a carbon offsetting program alongside investment of more than $35 million in renewables research.

 

Travel Buyer: Barclays PLC North America

  • Barclays PLC submitted a comprehensive, well thought through application, with clear CO2 metrics, targets, reductions, defined processes and stakeholder engagement programs. The global advisory board was particularly impressed with their approach to supply chain management.

 

The winners were presented with their ICARUS trophy at the GBTA Foundation Annual Gala Dinner held yesterday at the New York Hilton Midtown.

The awards recognize travel buyers, suppliers, intermediaries and teams who can demonstrate outstanding leadership, innovation and commitment to delivering best in class sustainability programs, products and services across Europe.

“The quality of entries exceeded our expectation, once again, and clearly demonstrates that companies across Europe are seeing sustainable business travel and meetings programs as a sure way to optimize travel costs, and generate a significant return on investment." said Bernard Harrop, head of sustainability Project ICARUS.

The winners were presented with their Project ICARUS bronze trophy at the GBTA Confererence 2014, Berlin held on 12-14 November at the Maritim Hotel, Berlin.
