Effective Leadership through Stronger Relationships

August 7-8,2010 | Houston, TX
NBTA International Convention & Exposition

Academic Director:  Stephen A. Stumpf, PhD, MBA

Competency: Leadership

Have you ever wondered just how much more you could accomplish if you could become a truly effective leader and increase your abilities to create long-term, partner-like relationships with key buyers or suppliers?  The Effective Leadership through Stronger Relationships workshop is design for those who want to move from being good, to being great. But ‘great’ is not a self-label – it is a label that others must associate with you.  Drawing on the latest research and best practices on these topics as applied to professional services, the workshop starts on your job -- with a 360-degree assessment of you by yourself, then your peers, direct reports, bosses, and, if you have them, clients.  On site we explore this assessment, develop a detailed understanding of the key leadership and relationship building competencies necessary to be ‘great’, and practice these skills with each other in a safe, learning environment.  The goal is to leverage the skills that you have, and to selective develop the next level of skill that will assure your personal success.

Our Approach

We use a combination of experiential activities, from a preprogram 360-degree assessment tool, to an interpersonal relationship style inventory, to role-plays and short case analyses that highlight key concepts and competencies.  Group discussions, individual discovery, and group break out sessions occur each day.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Improve your ability to influence others to attain chosen objectives in an ethical and timely manner.
  • Apply your understanding of relationships to your work through creative and practical application of the ideas and competencies you have explored.
  • Better determine which approaches to leadership and relationship building are relevant to you and the issues you face through improved observational and diagnostic skills.
  • Leverage self and others’ perceptions of your leadership and relationship building competencies.
