With the global economy and a climate of increasing international business travel, it is imperative that organisations understand how and why business travel may be psychologically damaging in order that they can both support business travellers effectively and protect and sustain the success of an organisation.  Recent research conducted by International SOS together with Kingston Business School and Affinity Health at Work is the first of its kind to synthesise the existing literature on the psychological implications of business travel together with perspectives from experts and business travellers themselves.  During this session, our experts will explore some of the most critical findings and offer practical tools and ideas to help organisations increase the safety, health and wellbeing of business travellers by understanding more about the psychological implications of business travel.

At the end of the session, participants should be able to:

  • Understand why mental illness poses such significant risks within the business traveller landscape

  • Understand that mental illness transcends all demographics and why

  • Better understand the relationship between business travel and:

    • Negative outcomes – risky decision making, emotional exhaustion, heightened stress & anxiety,

    • Positive emotional outcomes – increased employee engagement, greater freedom from home life

    • Trends related to day-to-day health and wellbeing

  • Know what an organisation’s Duty of Care with regards to mental illness?

  • Have some practical tips or tools for your organisation to consider to best support the mental wellbeing of your travellers
