Bhart Sarin

President, GBTA

Bhart Sarin is Director of Procurement and Storeroom Operations at Ingredion, a leading global ingredients manufacturer delivering on-trend solutions to make life better.  In this role, he leads the procurement teams and storeroom operations for Corporate and North America plus Global Travel Operations.  Prior to taking on his current position he held multiple roles of growing responsibility within Procurement and Travel Management.

Additionally, Bhart is the 26th President of the Global Business Travel Association. Starting his GBTA journey in 2006, he has served in many volunteer capacities including the Legislative Advisory Council, the GBTA Foundation Board of Trustees, and Chairman of the Global Board of Directors.

He has dual degrees in Economics and Criminology from the University of Maryland @ College Park and is a contributor to the ISM Report on Business®.  Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, Bhart resides in Chicago, Illinois with his wife, yet remains a passionate Steelers and Penguins fan.

Cathy Heron

Mayor of St. Albert

Cathy Heron is serving her first term of office as Mayor of St. Albert. Cathy was an active Councillor for the City of St. Albert for 7 years prior to her election as Mayor in 2017. Mayor Heron serves on several boards for St. Albert that promote collaboration with other municipalities such as Edmonton Global, Edmonton Metropolitan Regional Board, and Alberta Urban Municipalities Association of which Cathy is Vice President. Cathy served on the St. Albert Smart City Task Force, Capital Region Board-Growth Plan Update Task Force as well the Joint Opportunities Task Force with our neighbour Sturgeon County. Cathy is an advocate for Smart Communities.

As a believer in innovation, she was a key player in the development of the priorities of the St. Albert Smart City Master Plan that guides our administration. Mayor Heron travels Canada to promote Smart City development and speak to the strides our community has made. In addition, the City of St. Albert has been recognized for their Environmental Master Plan in sustainability practices. She has had a long-standing commitment to building and participating in an environmentally focused community.

Prior to her service as an elected official, Cathy served on the Environmental Advisory, Community Services Board, RCMP Community Advisory, and Economic Advisory Committees. Mayor Heron has a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences. Mayor Heron embraces the philosophy that it takes a village to raise a child; this is the principal driver behind her community and family life, having raised three adult children of her own. 

Chris Koch

Renowned Motivational Speaker

Chris Koch doesn’t let limitations or obstacles stand in his way. Despite being born without arms and legs, Koch grew up like any other small-town kid — playing road hockey, causing mischief at school, and helping out on his family farm. Neither he or his family treated his disability like a tragedy, and instead used it to fuel his dreams. Today, Koch is a motivational speaker who inspires his audiences to continually challenge themselves and build the life they dream of.

Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Koch was raised in the small farming and ranching community of Nanton, Alberta. Early on, he learned that he would not be raised with pity or sympathy. Sure, he had to do things a little differently and some tasks took him a little longer to complete than others, but he was determined to be just like the rest and was always treated just like the rest. After all, he still had a good head on his shoulders and with that, anything is possible.

Koch loves sharing his story and spreading his message of, “If I Can…” An avid traveler, marathoner, and farmer, his presentation reflects his full life. Simply put, Koch says, if I can do what I’ve done so far in my life, what’s stopping others from doing the same?

Crystal Toupin

Senior Account Manager

Crystal Toupin is a Senior Account Manager at Cvent. She manages third party accounts, guiding them in how to drive revenue and support their growth strategy. She’s been successful in helping partners leverage their account in the most effective way possible to win new business. Crystal has over 10 years of partnership management experience, primarily focused on event and hospitality technology. When she isn’t answering emails, she spends most of her time with her dog and learning how to sail. She recently purchased a 110 year old tug boat and won “Oldest Powerboat” at the Victoria Classic Boat Festival.

Edward Sims

President and CEO, WestJet

Ed Sims is the President and Chief Executive Officer for WestJet. As President and CEO, Ed is responsible for both the strategic direction of the company and the day-to-day operations. Ed first joined WestJet in May, 2017 as Executive Vice-President, Commercial.

Since starting in the United Kingdom travel industry, Ed has enjoyed a varied career spanning more than 30 years in tourism and aviation across the European and Australasian markets. Prior to WestJet, Ed held senior commercial and operational leadership positions within the Tui, Thomas Cook, and Virgin Groups and served for ten years at Air New Zealand where he led the international wide-body business. His most recent role was as CEO of Airways, New Zealand’s air navigation service provider.

Throughout his career Ed has demonstrated that an emphasis on peoples’ development and transparent communication are the stepping stones to success. Drawn to WestJet’s culture, Ed guides his team based on professional values of accountability, resilience, authenticity, aspiration, and humility.

Frank Satusky

Director, Network Optimization at Air Canada

was appointed to the position of Director, Network Optimization at Air Canada in November 2018, responsible for the short and medium term commercial optimization of the airlines' flying schedule. Over the past 11 years, Frank has worked in progressively senior roles in the Network Planning, Scheduling and Alliances groups. Most recently, Frank was responsible for the renegotiation of the Network and revenue sharing elements of the airlines' Transatlantic joint venture with Lufthansa Group and United. Prior to that, Frank was responsible for the expansion of both the Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge international network, launching 42 new international routes over six years.

Keith Wallis

Senior Director, Distribution and Payments, Air Canada

Keith Wallis has spent over 20 years in the airline industry. He has held various positions in Operations, Product Management, and most recently in Distribution and Payments.

Mr. Wallis is Air Canada’s Senior Director, Distribution and Payments, where he is responsible for providing leadership direction on the global strategy and objectives relating to Product Distribution and Payment Solutions. This includes maximizing revenue performance and cost efficiency through the development of a global distribution and payments strategy, business development activities, and account management. He is also responsible for the carrier’s joint distribution strategy within Star Alliance, and the development of short and long-term objectives to position the Air Canada brand in the global marketplace.

Mr. Wallis is the current Chairman of the IATA Shop-Order Services Board (fka PDMG), responsible for NDC.

Mr. Wallis holds an MBA from McGill University and is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.

Jonathan Buchwald

Jonathan is the President and CEO of PRIME Event Partners, a leading business event planning agency in North America. Headquartered in Vancouver, PRIME services large corporate meeting and incentive travel reward programs for Fortune 1000 corporations, and is a preferred vendor to Governments for Summits, head-of-state events, stakeholder meetings, and tradeshow initiatives.

Mr. Buchwald is an active member in the Young President’s Organization, the Society of Incentive and Travel Executives (SITE), Tourism Vancouver and the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC).

He is a past winner of the 40-Under-40 Award, the SITE Crystal Award, and was a finalist for the Entrepreneur-of-the-Year in British Columbia. He is a graduate of the University of Alberta, where he majored in International Relations and Anthropology, and minored in Theatre … all three continue to be his avocations today, along with fitness and travel.

Joy Romero, P.Eng, MBA PM, ICD.D, FCAE

Joy has worked in steel, iron ore, coal, and oil and gas. She joined Canadian Natural in 2001 to develop the Horizon Oil Sands Project. She has served as a School Trustee, Chair of the Governing Council of Athabasca University, and advisor to several NSERC chairs. Joy is currently Chair of the Clean Resource Innovation Network and Vice Chair of the Petroleum Technology Alliance of Canada, as well as past Board Chair of Canada’s Oil Sands Alliance. She is a member of the Business Leaders Advisory Council for Athabasca University and the Faculty of Science Dean’s Circle for the University of Calgary. Joy is an inductee of the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame and a past member of the Science, Technology & Innovation Council for Canada.

K. Ian Race , CTC, CTE, GTP

Ian Race is the Senior Vice President, Corporate Sales for Vision Travel DT Ontario-West Inc. based in Toronto, Ontario . An industry veteran for over 30 years, Ian leads the Sales & Business Development team for Direct Travel within the Canadian market.

Originally from Montreal, Ian was educated at Concordia University, however he states that his true education came through the Canadian Military where he served as a Pilot for 3 years. Upon leaving the military, Ian spent a number of years in the airline business with Canadian Regional air carriers, including a 1/2 year working and flying in the high Arctic.

Ian migrated from the airline business into the Travel Management Business where he has for the most part been since the mid to late 1980’s. Formerly having held senior and executive roles at American Express Travel & Navigant International in Canada, Ian is now a member of the Canadian leadership team and shareholder in Vision Travel – A Direct Travel Company… One of the largest TMC’s in North America. An avid sportsman & outdoors enthusiast, Ian is as comfortable on the ice in hockey gear, as he is on a baseball diamond or in the woods with a bow & arrow in hand.

Ian is a member of the GBTA Canada Advisory Board, and lives in Oakville, Ontario.

Robert Quon

Partner, Vancouver

Robert is a partner in the Corporate/Commercial group, leads the Vancouver Corporate/Commercial Group, and is the lead partner in the Aviation and Aerospace sector in Dentons’ Vancouver office.

Robert offers clients a broad range of experience in corporate and commercial transactions, private mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and sale transactions, reorganizations and amalgamation, and advises on strategy and business investments in connection with these matters. Robert also acts as an external general counsel for a number of firm clients and advises on strategy and provides or coordinates advice to them. He regularly acts for national and international clients, particularly in aviation and aerospace.

Rodolphe Texier

Senior expert NDC & Distribution

With a professional pilot as a father and a flight attendant as a mother, Rodolphe knew from early on he was destined to work in the travel industry. His experience with Amadeus started in 2000, immediately after obtaining his engineering degree from the National Higher French Institute of Aeronautics and Space.

He first joined as a developer in London, at the time British Airways partnered with Amadeus to build a new-gen IT system. It was the beginning of Amadeus new business division : Airline IT.

A few years later, after the obtention of his MBA, Rodolphe returned to Amadeus as product manager, where he worked on the design of Amadeus availability cache. His skills led him to join the expert path, as Availability & Shopping expert.

Starting 2014, Rodolphe led the analysing an emerging technology – NDC – with the objective to determine the best way to integrate it within Amadeus GDS platform. This study later on evolved into the NDC [X] Program, that Rodolphe joined with a new role as Senior Expert NDC & Distribution. He is now animating the NDC [X] Consulting & Expertise team.

Sarah Mah Ming

Experienced Meetings & Events Professional

Sarah Mah Ming is an experienced meetings & events professional with 18 years of experience in meeting planning, execution and program management. She joined the EY Global Travel, Meetings & Events team in 2014 as the Travel, Meetings & Events Manager for Canada. In this role she manages the operations of both the travel program as well as the meetings and events program with an annual multi-million dollar spend.

During her time in the role, Sarah has overseen the implementation of an online booking tool for travel, as well as the additional implementation of a formal meeting management company relationship. Prior to joining the EY Global Travel, Meetings & Events team, Sarah worked for 10 years with EY in various roles including managing the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year program in the Prairies region as well as the Western Canadian events, sponsorships and corporate responsibility efforts.

The EY Global Travel, Meetings & Events team has been recognized over the last few years most notably in 2018 when Global Leader Karen Hutchings was named both one of the most influential people of the year at BTN and as BTN’s Travel Manager of the Year. And most recently in 2019 received the GBTA President’s award at the 2019 annual conference.

Scott Marohn

Vice President, Aviation Marketing at Airport City Winnipeg

As Vice President, Aviation Marketing at Airport City Winnipeg, Mr. Marohn oversees all air service and marketing initiatives at the Airport with existing and new airlines.He also leads the airport in innovative initiatives that will improve customer service, decrease cost, or increase revenue for the company.

Scott started with WAA in 2005 in the Operations department and provided strategic leadership during the major terminal redevelopment project, which opened in 2008.His expertise in the startup of new common use, boarding bridge, and baggage handling systems has allowed him to bring the operations role of the facility over to business development in order to gain extensive knowledge of various sides of the business in discussions with airlines.Scott holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba.

Sharlene Ketwaroo-Nanoo

Sharlene has progressively built her career in Corporate Travel starting with her time at Canadian Tire where she was responsible for managing all aspects of the enterprise travel program. During this time, Sharlene was trusted with supporting travel, employee expense and corporate credit cards for the Canadian Tire family of businesses.

After her departure from Canadian Tire, Sharlene spent two years as a Category Manager at Bell Canada, where is was responsible for the procurement of the travel, meeting and incentive categories.

Sharlene recently joined the Rogers Communications family as Category Manager, Travel where she is responsible for driving the strategic direction of Rogers travel program transformation.

In addition to her responsibilities at Rogers, Sharlene is Chair of the GBTA Canada Advisory Board and a member of the Humber College Travel Services Program Advisory Committee.

Stacy Shields

Tanya Doran

As a panelist of the Energy Efficiency Advisory Panel for the Government of Alberta, Tanya has proved her ability to analyze topics to focus engagement and deliver innovative solutions. In her previous role as the Executive Director for the Alberta Chapter - Canada Green Building Council, she promoted certifications and policy directions through leadership, programming and research.

Tanya believes performance is at the heart of what we do. She is dedicated to realizing the full potential of the building in terms of life cycle cost, energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and human health and wellness — aligning with the client outcomes. Tara Mulrooney

Tara Mulrooney is the Vice President, Technology at Edmonton International Airport (EIA). Tara recently joined EIA in early 2019 and with her exceptional industry knowledge and experience, as well as, her enthusiasm, she is a great fit for Edmonton Airports.

Tara’s most recent experience was as Chief Technology Officer for Alberta Energy Regulator. Prior to that role, she held the position of Executive Director at the University of Calgary and multiple senior consulting positions.

She brings two decades of industry-leading experience in the IT field to our organization, at a time when we are focusing heavily on digital transformation. A few of her many accomplishments include recently being recognized as Canadas’ CIO of the Year by the CIO Association of Canada, and inventing the renowned “OneStop” risk-based regulatory platform, a technology stack built on enterprise-class technologies that automates many processes and provides three user personas (citizen, staff, and industry) to a global audience.

Her approach to IT includes converting strategic plans into tactical reality by leveraging people, technology and efficient processes. Tara focuses on risk management, cost-reduction and best practices, while ensuring that new innovations are delivering the best business outcomes.

Tony D'Astolfo

Tony is a 35 year travel industry veteran and an accomplished executive with deep expertise in travel and technology. He joined Serko, the market leading online travel and expense company in Australasia in April 2018 to lead their efforts in North America. Tony was previously Chief Commercial Office at Deem, where he was responsible for developing and driving the commercial strategies for all sales, marketing and customer related activities. Prior to joining Deem, Tony was Managing Director of Phocuswright, a premier research and consulting business to the travel industry, and before that served as Chief Sales Officer for tech-enabled ground transportation company GroundLink.

His record of success in the corporate travel technology space began at B2B e-commerce leader GetThere, where he led the pre-IPO startup as Vice President of Sales during an explosive growth period that saw a tenfold increase in revenues and expansion of the customer base from five to over 2,200 corporations. His career started with United Airlines where he spent more than 19 years in leadership roles, including his last assignment as National Sales Manager for the U.K. and Ireland.

Tony is a long-time member of GBTA and ACTE, and a former member of the Board of Directors of both ACTE and WINiT (Women In Travel). Tony is an accomplished speaker and moderator who has spoken at travel industry conferences around the world, and is known for his ability to bring important conversations to the forefront.
