Dave Hilfman’s Monday Memo to GBTA Members: #ReadySafeTravel Campaign Premieres

I have always been incredibly proud to work as part of the business travel community. No matter the challenge – economic setbacks, terrorist attacks, global recession – our industry has pushed ahead with resolve, creativity, and a spirit of collaboration.

In 2020, during some extremely dark days for business travel, the people who make this industry our profession have refused to quit, because quitting is not an option. Together, we can and must continue to get this industry we love ready and safe for the upcoming return to business travel.

That commitment rests at the center of a new unity campaign architected by the Global Business Travel Association. The GBTA #ReadySafeTravel initiative will focus and mobilize advocacy efforts to support the industry; ensure passenger and worker safety in ways meant to restore traveler and corporate confidence; and grow public awareness around the economic necessity of a thriving business travel industry. The #ReadySafeTravel campaign will:

Ready us for a return to travel through focused industry advocacy: Whether its signing and sending letters, engaging peers, colleagues and partners on the industry’s behalf, or pushing government leaders to support meaningful economic relief and passenger safety efforts, now is the time to accelerate our industry’s journey to recovery. The #ReadySafeTravel initiative will offer our more than 9,000 member professionals the opportunity to help GBTA advocate for everything our industry needs to save jobs and get back on the road to travel – as soon as that can be safely accomplished.

Educate one and all on the subject of safety: Since the onset of the pandemic, GBTA has consistently worked in North America and Europe to increase rapid testing efforts, reduce travel quarantines and establish reciprocal open borders to stimulate a return to business travel. As those education efforts ramp up even further, we also will continue to offer the member education and training inherent in a safe return to business travel.

Tell the business travel story: Global travel represents a $1.45 trillion industry worldwide, which means we have more than a trillion reasons why we matter. Our #ReadySafeTravel initiative will offer you data, talking points and storytelling opportunities meant to make the business travel tale top of mind for the public, our industry peers, thought leaders and elected officials.

From our Daily News Briefs to our periodic coronavirus polls – now a media and industry standard for measuring business travel activity and attitudes – to education offerings like the GBTA Collaboratory 2020 webinars, GBTA Academy Career Path and On Demand education curricula, our Association has done everything we can to be there for you over the past eight months. We at GBTA intend to redouble our efforts as we push forward with this campaign. Our goal is to serve as a positive force, a hub to unify the manifold recovery efforts happening in the business travel world on a daily basis.

Like each of you – and with each of you – we want to accelerate our industry’s much-needed return to business at full throttle. I hope you will join us as one voice in carrying forward that timely and critical message in the months to come.

Have a great week.
