GBTA’s Shane Downey Receives Prestigious 2019 Leading Association Lobbyist Award

Alexandria, VA (January 25, 2019) – The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), the voice of the global business travel industry, is pleased to announce that Shane Downey, GBTA vice president of Government Relations, was named one of Association Trends’ 2019 Leading Association Lobbyists. The award is given to a class of outstanding leaders who are a driving force in accomplishing their organization’s advocacy and grassroots initiatives.

Downey works closely with GBTA’s Government Relations Committee, which provides insight to help identify the issues that matter most to the business travel community. He actively engages GBTA Chapters in advocacy through programs such as the annual Government Relations Challenge. In addition, his leadership is instrumental to the success of the annual GBTA Legislative Summit where our members take our collective voice to the Hill and meet with their Senators and Representatives.

“As the voice of the business travel industry on Capitol Hill, GBTA tirelessly advocates for policies that better the business travel industry,” said Michael W. McCormick, GBTA Executive Director and COO. “Simply put, GBTA wouldn’t be as strong or effective without Shane’s leadership, commitment, optimism and hard work.”

Last year was an incredibly successful year for GBTA’s advocacy efforts with the passage of the FAA Reauthorization, which included virtually all of GBTA’s priority issues. Downey promotes GBTA’s goals internationally as well. He works with GBTA’s partner organizations throughout Europe to educate and lobby European Union officials about policies that benefit GBTA members and the business travel industry.

Please join us in congratulating Shane!
