Supporting the Future of Business Travel Management

With the emergence of business travel management as a key corporate function, business travel in all its forms is responsible for achieving the key objectives of the whole organization - contributing added value to the company while empowering its employees. Issues such as rapidly changing technology, consolidation, mergers, and globalization in the foreground, travel professionals face both looming challenges and exciting opportunities that the industry that is reshaping the industry.

In continued efforts to control enterprise costs and budgets, a heavier emphasis has been placed on business travel and its management. The need to assure traveler service quality, by increasing traveler productivity while keeping an eye toward cost, is now paramount. Managing in this changing culture is critical to the success of corporate travel professionals and the organizations they support. The GBTA Foundation was founded to provide global travel professionals the resources they need to thrive in this environment.

The GBTA Foundation is supported by more than fifty corporate donors, as well as hundreds of individual donors from within the global business travel industry. Corporate donors include travel suppliers, as well as direct member companies, who understand how the mission of the Foundation supports the industry at large.

The GBTA Foundation provides the business travel industry with timely and accurate research, education scholarships, and renowned educational programs.

2013 Achievement Report

In 2014, new partnerships made it possible for travel professionals from Los Angeles to Toronto, Shanghai to Berlin, to have access to the industry’s only certification, Global Travel Professional (GTP).

2014 Achievement Report

2014 focused around new platforms for learning. More than 70 education session were delivered on-line in a live format and recorded and archived for members to access on-demand at their convenience.

2015 Achievement Report

In 2015, the Gift of Knowledge Initiative in China was officially launched with three sessions in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. This effort brought relevant and needed training to business travel industry in the China market. The first Advanced Principles of Business Travel Management courses were delivered.

In 2016, the Managed Travel Index® and the Sustainability Self-Assessment Tool were launched in addition to the more than 100 research initiatives that were completed and shared through webinars, conferences, workshops, symposiums and at GBTA Convention 2016.
