Today, the Global Business Travel Association sent letters to the Senate and House Appropriations Committees to remove an increase in the Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) from the FY2018 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) Appropriations Act. As currently written, the THUD Appropriations bill would increase the cap on the PFC from $4.50 to $8.50. The estimated cost, $2.6 billion, would be levied on all travelers purchasing airlines tickets.

GBTA to Congress: Don’t Increase the PFC

“The IATA study confirms that any PFC increase will have a negative economic impact,” said Michael W. McCormick, GBTA executive director and COO. “This is especially true for the business traveler as the PFC is essentially a tax on the cost of doing business. Money spent on taxes and fees is money that is not spent supporting economic growth and job creation. Congress should reject any PFC increase.”

Two years later, nearly all travel managers and event planners with consolidated programs report success

Travel, meeting and event program consolidation — when organizations connect internal structures that overlap in function, but have not historically communicated with each other — has grown 62 percent since 2015. If this trend continues at this rate, two-thirds (68 percent) of programs will be fully consolidated by 2019, according to new research released today by the GBTA Foundation, the education and research arm of the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), in partnership with Cvent, Inc., the leading meetings, events, and hospitality technology company.
