Alexandria, VA (September 25, 2017) – Yesterday the President and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced enhanced global security measures that included adding Chad, North Korea and Venezuela to the list of countries subject to travel restrictions. Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Somalia are again included in this order, while restrictions placed on the Sudan have been lifted.

GBTA Announces 2017-2019 Global Board of Directors

Alexandria, VA (August 16, 2017) - The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA)—the voice of the global business travel industry, announced three newly elected members to its Board of Directors following the 2017 election during GBTA Convention 2017 in Boston. Christle Johnson, Vice President, Travel & Business Services, Johnson Downie LLC, will serve as President for a second term. Rita Visser Director, Global Travel Sourcing and GPO, Oracle, will serve as the new GBTA Vice President. Johnson and Visser were elected by GBTA Direct Members (business travel buyers), and will serve two-year terms.

Today’s geopolitical landscape and its impact on business travel and duty of care along with the latest innovations in travel technology were the predominant themes throughout the five-day industry gathering that brought together nearly 7,000 travel professionals and industry leaders.

Senate Appropriations Committee Set to Vote on Massive Tax Increase for the Business Traveler

Alexandria, VA (July 26, 2017) – Yesterday, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies voted to approve a proposal included in the FY2018 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) Appropriations Act, that would raise the Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) from $4.50 to $8.50. Michael W. McCormick, GBTA executive director and COO, sent a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee expressing concern regarding the unintended consequences of such a fee increase on the business traveler. A copy of that letter can be found here. The Senate Appropriations Committee is expected to consider the proposal tomorrow.
