The vast majority of business travellers feel their companies take duty of care seriously, yet access to various risk management services is far from universal, according to new research released today from the GBTA Foundation, the education and research arm of the Global Business Travel Association. Roughly one-third of German, French and UK business travellers say their organisation does not provide an assistance hotline to call in an emergency or unexpected event – one of the most basic services available.

GBTA and Travelers United to Congress: Don’t Tax Travel Again

Alexandria, VA (November 8, 2017) – Today, the Global Business Travel Association and Travelers United sent a joint letter to Congress urging opposition to a proposal that would increase the cap on the Passenger Facility Charge (PFC). In July, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted unanimously (31-0) to approve a proposal included in the FY2018 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) Appropriations Act, that would increase the cap on the PFC from $4.50 to $8.50. The estimated cost, $2.6 billion, would be levied on all travelers purchasing airlines tickets.

Alexandria, VA (October 31, 2017) – Small and mid-sized companies are significantly more likely to allow business travelers to use non-transparent payment methods such as personal credit cards or cash advances, according to new research released today by the GBTA Foundation, the education and research arm of the Global Business Travel Association. When looking at usage of corporate credit cards, Central Travel Accounts (CTAs) and virtual cards, adoption is consistent regardless of company size, showing these methods are accessible for a variety of companies.

Travel Coalition Supports the TSA Modernization Act

Alexandria, VA (October 24, 2017) – Today, a coalition of travel associations sent a letter to the Senate Leadership urging support for S. 1872, the TSA Modernization Act. A copy of that letter can be found here. The TSA Modernization Act would advance the deployment of new technologies at security checkpoints, mitigate risks to public areas at airports, and reduce delays in air travel. The bill would also give the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) additional tools to expand TSA PreCheck, a valuable trusted traveler program that increases security at the checkpoint while providing for expedited screening.

Travel Ban Expanded to Include Chad, North Korea and Venezuela

Alexandria, VA (September 25, 2017) – Yesterday the President and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced enhanced global security measures that included adding Chad, North Korea and Venezuela to the list of countries subject to travel restrictions. Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Somalia are again included in this order, while restrictions placed on the Sudan have been lifted.
