GBTA Comments on the Senate Commerce Committee Hearing on FAA Reauthorization

Alexandria, VA (June 7, 2017) – The Senate Commerce Committee held a hearing today on the Reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration. The following statement may be attributed to Michael W. McCormick, GBTA executive director and COO.

“Modernization of our nation’s air traffic control should be an integral part of FAA reauthorization. Air traffic control is of paramount importance to the safe facilitation of travel. The status quo cannot be allowed to continue. There is near universal agreement on the challenges confronting air traffic control today. Outdated technology, bureaucratic procurement rules, budget shortfalls and politics continue to plague air traffic control. Creating a not-for-profit corporation to oversee air traffic control,in theory, does offer a remedy to those challenges. The Committee should consider the President’s proposal, or seriously seek other remedies to solve the problems that includes the concerns of the business traveler. ATC modernization offers a robust ROI to the business traveler and the economy on a whole.”
