Welcome to the New GBTA

Yesterday in San Diego at the GBTA Convention 2022, GBTA ushered in a new era for its members, partners, and the industry. This came to life on the closing Main Stage session as GBTA Board and Staff members joined Suzanne Neufang, CEO, and Denise Truso, Board President, onstage to unveil a new GBTA look, logo and tagline – Many Voices, One Purpose – with a focus on Community, Learning and Advocacy.

“In the past 9 months, we at GBTA have been thinking about who we are – our brand, our promise to you – and how in a world where everything is now different, we too need to evolve ... to deliver full value to our members and to the global business travel community. The time is right for transformation,” said Suzanne Neufang, CEO, GBTA.

The new brand marks the beginning of the next chapter of GBTA. Through engaging its many voices, GBTA will continue to bring the global business travel industry together so members can learn from and inspire one another, develop as businesses and as individuals, represent common interests, and collectively move the industry forward. The foundational pillars of GBTA remain steadfast: Community, Learning, and Advocacy – but reimagined with fresh focus for the future.

GBTA also announced it will be giving out 500 free memberships which recipients will be able to use themselves or pay it forward as a nomination for someone else who may not otherwise be able to join (Nominations will begin September – watch for more details to come on gbta.org.)

“As we undertake this journey and adapt to the dynamic changes in our industry, we hope you will continue to travel with us to build our collective future,” said Neufang.

GBTA Elections
GBTA Welcomes Newly Elected Board Members

At the GBTA Convention yesterday, the association announced the results for three Board seats up for election along with bylaws for approval. The newly elected Board members who will begin to serve immediately for a two-year term are:

Direct Seat, Director-At-Large

• Barbara Rose, Americas Travel, M&E Lead, Ernst and Young

Direct Seat, Director-At-Large

• Sue Spear, Travel and Fleet Manager, Cengage Learning

Allied Seat, Director-At-Large

• Kevin Sullivan, Senior Director of Sales, Southwest Airlines

Additionally, the bylaw changes up for review were approved.

The elections process for 2022 began on May 26 as candidate submissions were received. Voting took place from July 26 through August 15, 2pm Pacific time. For only the second time, this year all Direct and Allied members could vote for both categories of open seats.

“As a member-led association, the Board of Directors plays an important role in the governance and strategy of GBTA. We appreciate all who stepped forward to participate in this very important process -- from the 11 Board candidates who ran, to the 10-person Bylaw Review Task Force, and of course, to those of you who voted online. On behalf of the GBTA Board of Directors, congratulations to our newly elected members and thank you to all who participated in the GBTA electoral process,” said Denise Truso, Board President, GBTA.
