New Kid On the
Block Board = Lessons Learned

In this feature series, GBTA’s Board of Directors share their views on topics that matter most to members, the industry, and the way forward for business travel. Today’s guest author is GBTA Board member, Barbara Rose.

As I reminisce about my unforgettable moment at the San Diego Convention Center in 2022, seeing my picture on the big screen and hearing my name announced as a new Direct Member for the GBTA Board, I recall feeling ecstatic. It was like experiencing a Sally Field Oscar moment. I thought to myself, "They like me, they really like me!" This experience reinforced the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone. Whether you win or lose, there is so much to gain from the experience. This is lesson #1.

Over the past months, I have been amazed by the dedication and passion of the GBTA staff and volunteers. Their focus is on doing what is best for the association and its members. They are committed to the success and growth of the association, and their enthusiasm for learning and community is palpable. Lesson #2 is that a small team of passionate people can achieve remarkable things.

I have also relished learning about the inner workings of an advanced association. It requires time and effort but I have found it very meaningful. It provides a new perspective and forces me to prioritize better. Juggling multiple priorities is never easy, but the rewards of new experiences and perspectives make it worthwhile. This is lesson #3.

Working alongside exceptional individuals with diverse backgrounds has taught me the importance of not only contributing but also listening. I have seen everyone on the Board share their ideas and debate constructively, ultimately working towards a solution that everyone can support. This is lesson #4.

Being part of GBTA, sitting on a Board with individuals from different-sized companies, positions, and experiences is a gift. I am incredibly grateful to those who participated in the election process and the GBTA community. You remind me every day that we are all working towards a common goal.

GBTA Elections
Your Vote Will Help Shape the Future of GBTA

Voting is now open for five open positions on the GBTA Board of Directors. This is your opportunity to make your voice heard, to choose our next leadership and help shape the future of GBTA.

The open Board positions in the 2023 Election are:

• President
• Vice President
• One (1) Direct Member at Large
• One (1) Direct Member Regional Canadian
• One (1) Allied Member at Large

How To Vote:

All GBTA members (Allied & Direct) who are current with their dues are eligible to vote. “Voting” members will have received a voting email from a third-party service, Election Services, who are conducting the GBTA elections process. If you need to renew your membership, please click here.

Online voting closes Friday, August 11 at 5:00 PM EST. Results of the elections will be announced on Tuesday, August 15 at GBTA Convention 2023. Active "Voting" GBTA members (Direct and Allied) are eligible to vote on ALL elected positions.
