Airlines Are Teaming up to Address This Controversial Problem With Air Travel

Most people are well aware of how the burning of fossil fuels contributes to our planet’s warming temperatures, but for many of us, contrails are more of a mystery. But that may soon change, thanks to a recently formed task force designed specifically to tackle contrails.

Contrails are long, white, whispy clouds that shoot out of an airplane as the result of moisture condensing and freezing as it leaves an engine flying at high altitudes.

Now, airlines are coming together to figure out how to reduce their impact. The new task force was informed by a 2020 study, which found that contrails almost double the aviation industry’s contributions to climate change.

It’s election time and an opportunity to make your voice heard and to help shape the future of GBTA.

The open Board positions in the 2023 Election are as follows:

• Vice President
• One (1) Direct Member at Large
• One (1) Direct Member Regional Canadian
• One (1) Allied Member at Large

The GBTA Board of Directors plays a critical role in shaping the future path of our association and therefore the industry. Please exercise your vote to elect our next Board members. The 2023 elections are conducted online through a third-party service. Online voting is open through Friday, August 11 at 5:00 PM EST. Election results will be announced on Tuesday, August 15 at GBTA Convention 2023. Active "Voting" GBTA members (Direct and Allied) are eligible to vote on ALL five open Board positions.
