The 2024 edition of the U.S. Business Travel Industry Economic Study quantifies the economic contribution made by business travel to the U.S. economy and profiles U.S. business travelers in terms of their composition, behavior, motivations, and spending patterns. Key findings from the research include:
- A profile of U.S. business travelers
- More than 60% of U.S. business travelers are men
- Domestic business travel accounted for approximately 94% of the total trip-oriented business travel spending
- The 2023 contribution of business travel to U.S. economy
- Business travel spending in the U.S. reached $424 billion USD in 2016. This includes $262.6 billion USD in trip-related spending (62%) and $161.7 billion USD in meetings operations expenditures.
- Business travel-initiated trips and spending
- The amount spent per business trip averaged $520
- Group business travelers spend significantly more per trip than their transient counterparts despite a slightly shorter length of stay
