Hoteliers Can Look Past Storm Clouds to Sunny Days Ahead in 2023
(SOURCE: COSTAR)

STR Vice President of Analytics Isaac Collazo knows "there are some storm clouds on the horizon" heading into 2023, but he expects most news to be good news for the hotel industry even as the broader economy heads to a recession.

Leaders Asked US Congress to Speed Canadian Preclearance as Holiday Travel Rush Loomed

GBTA was among the national and local leaders in business and tourism that recently sent letters to the U.S. Congress, calling on members to bolster preclearance operations at Toronto Pearson International Airport to decrease the wait times for travelers to key U.S. markets.

“Twenty-two million people were screened at preclearance operations in 2019, and supporting the program is crucial to facilitate business travel between the United States and Canada,” said GBTA CEO Suzanne Neufang.

The US organizations also requested sufficient appropriations for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) in the FY2023 budget to support regular security preclearance operations, and ensure Toronto Pearson has sufficient temporary officers and overtime funding to support travel this holiday season. The organizations also called on Congress to ask CBP to restart the processing of NEXUS applications in Canada to help facilitate the flow of travelers between the two countries.
