How Are You Setting the Agenda for Business Travel Strategies This Year?

New year, new plans, new considerations and change – we’re back to business and setting the agenda for what the year ahead may bring for business travel. Strategy sessions, objective setting and innovative approaches are firing up across our organizations, teams and industry as we shape the future together for 2025 and beyond.

I was able to gain energy and insight from leadership across 38 US GBTA chapters at the annual US Chapter Leadership Summit this week in St. Louis, MO. Over 200 engaged volunteer leaders reminded me how valuable local, national and regional collaboration is to making our global industry such a vibrant place to work, learn and grow.

Looking across the globe, on many agendas this year is ensuring ongoing understanding and readiness for potential risk and change facing our companies, people and sector. The GBTA Risk Committee’s recent global outlook webinar provided in-depth insights on essential considerations ahead for safety and security in business travel. During the live webinar polling, geopolitical risk – such as war, terror acts and geographic tensions – was cited by 80% of industry professionals as an upper- or mid-range priority concern for their organizations. And when asked about the potential impact of the incoming US administration, the biggest concerns cited were travel bans or restrictions (48%) followed by delays in visa processing (24%). Catch the webinar on-demand here.

Is education on your professional development agenda for 2025? Exclusively for members, GBTA is offering scholarships for the Global Leadership Professional® (GLP) Program, facilitated by GBTA in partnership with Cornell University and starting on February 24. (Apply by February 14). Or maybe you want to bring your peer expertise to our professional community? Looking to Hamburg in November, the call for proposals is now open for education sessions at the GBTA Europe Conference.

We’re also firming up our GBTA 2025 line-up with over 170 virtual and in-person conferences and events already on the books. Mark all the important dates in your diary, including our upcoming conferences in Canada in March and APAC in May. (Bookmark the GBTA Events calendar.)

And lastly, with research as a mainstay of GBTA, we greatly appreciate your taking a few minutes this week to participate in our latest industry poll. Timely poll topics include travel volume outlook, policy evolution and sentiment on priorities and challenges for the year ahead – and we’ll release the results in February (Take the poll here.)

AT GBTA, we're setting our agenda for 2025 with a focus on continuing to deliver value to our members and partners and impact to our industry through our pillars of community, learning and advocacy.
