Airlines & Airports Invest More in IT for Better Passenger Experience & Sustainability

Publication of the 2023 Air Transport IT Insights report by SITA reveals a notable uptick in IT expenditure for both airports and airlines compared to the previous year, with estimated spending reaching 10.8 billion USD and 34.5 billion USD respectively. This trend is anticipated to continue into 2024, as indicated by over two-thirds of airport and airline Chief Information Officers (CIOs). Despite benefiting from increased travel demand, airports have increased their IT spend as a percentage of revenue in 2022 and 2023, underscoring the pivotal role of technology in shaping the future of travel.

GBTA Advocacy Efforts Continue in Brussels

Yesterday, Country Director of GBTA Italy, Fulvio Origo, met with Magda Kopczyńska, the European Commission’s top official overseeing EU transport policy to discuss the EU plans to incentivize multimodal travel through Multimodal Digital Mobility Services (MDMS) regulation. GBTA strongly supports the proposal, read more about the meeting here and GBTA’s position paper on MDMS.


GBTA Continues to Advocate for Passage of FAA Reauthorization Bill

GBTA continues to push Congress to pass the FAA Reauthorization bill to ensure flying business travelers are safe. Prior to the Congressional hearing “The State of American Aviation and the Federal Aviation Administration,” which took place yesterday, GBTA sent a letter to the U.S. House of Representatives leadership and a similar letter to the Senate requesting swift passage of the FAA Reauthorization bill to ensure the FAA has authorization for existing and new funding to ensure the nation’s skies are safe.
